The Douglas LadyCats basketball team will quest for their next state title under new leadership.
DHS girls basketball coach Cody Helenbolt is moving to Powell to coach the Lady Trappers at Northwest College.
Helenbolt has served as the head girls basketball coach in Douglas since 2014, leading the Bearcats girls over a dominant stretch that has included a 258-28 record and seven state titles.
The LadyCats were state champs in 2014, Helenbolt's first year as head coach. They also brought home the title in 2018, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 24. The 2020 tournament was cancelled due to covid, so there was no championship. Douglas was 24-1 coming into the tournament.
