(Tue 2/21/12) - Converse County has a new commissioner... On a 4-0 vote Tuesday afternoon, the Converse County Commissioners named Glenrock rancher Rick Grant to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Dave Edwards, who resigned last month due to health reasons. Earlier this month, the Converse County Republican Party sent in the names of Grant, Leon Chamberlain and Terry Henderson, and Commission chairman Mike Colling said it was a tough decision... audio here

Rick Grant was sworn in at this afternoon's commissioners meeting and will immediately begin to serve the people of Converse County.


(Wed 2/15/12) - Funeral services for 47 year old Daleray Madewell of Douglas will be held Thursday, February 16th at 10:00am at the Ft Reno building at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds.

Funeral services for 35 year old Jennifer Lynne Sebesta of Glenrock will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00am at the Glenrock High School Gymnasium. Interment will be in the Glenrock Cemetary.

Daleray Madewell and Jennifer Sebesta died Thursday, February 9th from injuries recieved in a plane crash near Morgan, Utah. Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the families at gormanfh.com.


(Fri 2/10/12) - A local pilot and a local nurse have been killed in a plane crash in eastern Utah. Daleray Madewell, owner of Double D Liquors in Douglas, and Jen Sebesta, a nurse at Memorial Hospital of Converse County, were on a Pilots For Christ flight near Logan, Utah on Thursday. The Utah Civil Air Patrol says the Cessna 210 took off from the airport Thursday afternoon, but raidoed the tower at about 2pm that they were returning due to bad weather. The tower lost contact with the plane shortly after. Morgan County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Lee says they found the wreckage of the single-engine Cessna in a 250-foot ravine about nine miles from the airport. Officials say the plane was spotted by a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter about 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it appeared the man and woman aboard the aircraft had not survived.


(Fri 2/3/12/) - They were freezin' for a reason... Jackalope Jump divers braved the cold in Douglas Friday afternoon to take a quick dip in the icy Wyoming water to raise funds for Special Olympics Wyoming, a year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Over $7500 dollars was raised at this year's Third Annual Douglas Jackalope Jump, the first of 11 jumps around Wyoming. All money raised at the Jackalope Jump stays in-state to help fund the Wyoming Special Olympics program.


(Fri 2/3/12) - A big ticket for a Glenrock construction company... Wyoming workplace safety regulators are seeking $13,500 in fines against a Glenrock company for an oil facility explosion that killed three workers northeast of Casper. The Wyoming Workers' Safety and Compensation Division released the citations Thursday. They allege seven violations by Wild West Construction in Glenrock, including that the company failed to adequately instruct employees how to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions. The explosion happened Aug. 29. The citations say flammable substances flowed from an oil storage tank through a pipe being connected by the workers. Tulsa, Okla.-based Samson Resources and Double D Welding and Fabrication in Mills also have received safety citations for the explosion. Proposed fines against all three companies exceed $48,000.

All Regional and State Basketball tournament games will be broadcast on 100.1FM, KKTY.

(Mon 2/27/12) - Lingle's boys and girls basketball teams are both headed to State this weekend. The Doggers beat Upton 52-30 in the 1A East Regional Championship game at Gillette Saturday night. Kaycee beat 1-seeded Midwest in the third place game. And on the girls side, Lingle beat Kaycee 48-38 for the championship, and Guernsey-Sunrise beat Hulett 60-41 to take 3rd.

At the 2A East Regional at Torrington, Moorcroft beat Sundance 59-41 in the title game, and Burns beat Big Horn 62-45 for third place. In the girls brackets, Pine Bluffs edged Tongue River 55-53 for the East Regional Championship, and Southeast beat Niobrara County 34-28 in the battle for third.

1A-2A State Basketball Tournaments start Thursday at Casper.. 1A, the Guernsey-Sunrise girls play Cokeville in the opening round Thursday at 4:30, Lingle-Ft Laramie's girls play Burlington at 6, and Lingle-Ft Laramie's boys meet St Stephens at 9... all three of those games are at the Events Center. 2A, Southeast's girls play Thermopolis Thursday morning at 10:30am and the Lusk Lady Tigers play Lovell at 6... both those games at Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym at Casper College.

(Sat 2/26/12) - Experience paid off and the Powell Panthers claimed the 3A title at the WHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. Powell earned 243.5 points for the team title.. Douglas was 33 points back with 210.5... Star Valley, Lander and Worland rounded out the top five. Coach Bob Bath said the Bearcats' youth showed a bit at the Casper Events Center... audio here

Douglas had two state champions... Reed Burgener scored two points as time ran out to claim a 6-4 win over Powell's Randy Andrews at 152, and Tanner Miller took a 7-3 decision over Drake Menck of Mountain View at 170. After the match, Miller talked about his strategy against Minck... audio here

Silver medals for Blake Sanderson at 138, Lane Read at 160, and Zak Owens at 182. Bronzes for Jordan Pingrey at 106, and CJ Allen at 285. Jake Lake was 4th in the 220, Tim Harris 5th at 195 and Dalton Smith was 6th at 182. Glenrock's Tyler VanAntwerp beat Zach Lurz of Torrington to take the state title at 195... VanAntwerp said he was glad to get a rematch with Lurz... audio here

(Sat 2/25/12) - Win for the girls, loss for the boys... final basketball games of the regular season. At the Rec Saturday afternoon, the LadyCats beat Buffalo 71-46. Four players in double figures for Douglas, led by 17 from freshman Ashlie Blackburn... Kassidy Scott hits 13, and Jill Espeland and Carlie Cecil add a dozen apiece. In the late game, the Bearcats and the Bison swapped leads and kept it close til halftime, but Buffalo runs away in the second half, claiming a 74-58 Bison win. Douglas sophomore Greg Vandeventer led all shooters with 24 points, and he fouled out with about five minutes left in the game. Dylan Davidson added 18.

The LadyCats finish the season 19-2... the Bearcats are 7-14. Both teams head to Newcastle Thursday for the 3A East Regional tournament.

(Fri 2/24/12) - The Lander Valley Tigers ran away with another 3A Boys State swim title this afternoon. Lander collected 284.5 team points to take the trophy. Buffalo was 90 points back with 194.5 for second. The Douglas Bearcats were 7th out of 11 teams competing. DHS senior Tylor Weiss brings home a gold medal for a first place finish in the 100 butterfly, and a bronze for a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Mitch VanOsdol was 4th in the 100 butterfly and 8th in the 200 individual medley... Hunter Wortham was 9th in the 200 IM, and Connor Vines was 9th off the 1 meter diving platform. Douglas relay teams were 3rd in the 200 medley, 5th in the 400 freestyle, and 11th in the 200 freestyle.

(Sat 2/18/12) - Bearcats wrestlers dominate Regionals... at the 3A East Regionals at Rawlins, Bob Bath's Bearcats earned 268 team points for first place. Worland was 80 points behind in second. Torrington was third, followed by Newcastle, Wheatland, Rawlins, Glenrock and Buffalo. Gold medal finishes for Jordan Pingery, Blake Sanderson, Dalton Burgener, Reed Burgener, Lane Reed, Tanner Miller and Jake Lake. Second place finishes for Zak Owens, Tim Harris and CJ Allen. Thirds for Blayn Watson, Hunter Haman, Colter Haman, Austin Degner and Dalton Smith. State Wrestling is this Friday and Saturday at the Casper Events Center.

(Sat 2/18/12) - Two more wins for Cats Basketball... Saturday night at the DHS Rec Center Gym, the LadyCats moved their season record to 18-2 with a 65-33 win over Glenrock. Kassidy Scott led all scorers with 18 points... Ashlee Blackburn hit 13 and Carlie Cecil collected 12. In the nitecap, Dylan Davidson was 11 of 12 at the free throw line on his way to 19 points and Robert Ricks and Greg Vandeventer hit 15 each as the Bearcats beat the Herders 57-44. The Bearcats improved to 7-13 with the win.

(Thu 2/16/12) - The Douglas LadyCats fight back to take a heart attack win... tonight at the Dawg House in Wheatland, the 4th-ranked LadyCats beat the 3rd-ranked Lady Bulldogs 36-35. Douglas trailed 29-25 as the fourth quarter opened, but led again by three with about a minute left. Wheatland narrowed the gap to one, and the Bulldogs sent the ball into play from the left corner with seconds left. McKenzie Hellbaum's shot went long, Douglas rebounded as the clock ran out, and the LadyCats took their second win of the season over the Bulldogs. It was the second one-point loss for Wheatland in a week... they fell Saturday night 54-53 to Torrington.

The LadyCats JV's took a 35-33 win... Wheatland's freshmen won 32-11.

Boys' play at the Rec in Douglas, the Bearcats lost to Wheatland 52-46... JV it was Wheatland 75-42, and the Bulldogs won the freshman game as well, 48-46.

Douglas takes the night off Friday night, and hosts the Glenrock Herders on Saturday with varsity games at 6p (girls) and 7:30p (boys).... both games live on 99CatsFM and here on the internet at kktyonline.com.

(Thu 2/16/12) - WyoPreps.com coaches and media 3A girls basketball poll has Star Valley at #1 again this week... Torrington moves up to #2 and bumps Wheatland to #3. Douglas is steady at #4, and Cody repeats at 5. 4A girls are all locked up, with no change in this week's rankings... it's Natrona, Gillette, Laramie, Sheridan and Rock Springs. In 2A, a repeat as well... for the second week in a row, it's Lovell, Tongue River, Pine Bluffs, Shoshoni and Wyoming Indian. And the top 4 spots repeat in 1A... Little Snake River, Burlington, Cokeville and Farson... the only change... Lingle-Ft Laramie bumps Kaycee out of the 5 spot.

(Wed 2/15/12) - Not a lot of movement in this week's 3A Boys basketball rankings... the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Poll had Lander and Torrington tied at number 1 last week. This week, Lander gets 18 of the 19 #1 votes, and the Tigers hold the top spot this week. Torrington's ranked #2, Star Valley's up to #3, dropping Powell to #4, and the Buffalo Bison are steady at #5. No changes at all in the 4A ranks... Evanston leads the big schools, followed again this week by the Sheridan Broncs, Gillette, East and Riverton. In 2A, The Lovell Bulldogs move back up to #1, dropping Wind River to #2. Wyoming Indian, Burns and Moorcroft repeat at 3-4-5. And in 1A, it's Little Snake River, Burlington and Midwest again at 1-2-3... Ten Sleep moves up to #4, dropping Normative Services out of Sheridan to #5.

(Fri 2/10/12) - Douglas wins two over Worland... the Cats and LadyCats basketball teams both took wins against the Worland Warriors tonight. In the early game, Kassidy Scott scored 12 points to lead the girls to a 50-34 win over Worland. Eight LadyCats scored in the win. The late game was a three-point festival, as both teams put up 7 from outside the arc. Dylan Davidson hit 5 triples on his way to 26 points, Greg Vandeventer had 9 buckets for 18 points and Robert Ricks hit 12 as the Bearcats ran past the Warriors 66-38. The LadyCats stretched their record to 15-2... the Bearcats improved to 6-11. Douglas is at Newcastle Saturday night, with the girls game at 5:30 and the boys' at 7.

(Sat 2/4/12) -Big wins on Saturday afternoon for the Cowboys and Cowgirls. At Laramie, four Cowboys scored in double figures and the Pokes held on in the final minute for a 68-66 win over 11th-ranked UNLV in front of more than 7,170 fans in the Arena-Auditorium. UW (18-5, 4-3) claimed its first win over a ranked foe since 2000 with a strong defensive effort and a balanced scoring attack to lead the Rebels (21-4, 5-2) the majority of the contest.

At Las Vegas, the Cowgirls fought back from a 10 point second-half deficit to claim a 51-47 overtime win. Wyoming improves to 9-12, 5-3.

(Sat 2/4/12) - Douglas wrestlers finished strong this weekend at Riverton. The all-class Ron Thon Memorial tournament saw 706 wrestlers from 41 Wyoming teams. Gillette won the team title with 217.5 points. East was runner up with 194. Douglas finished third with 159.5. Natrona finished 5th, Kelly Walsh 15th, Glenrock placed 20th, Wright 22nd, Torrington 23rd and Wheatland was 32nd. }

(Fri 2/3/12) - Losses for the Cats and LadyCats... in Friday night basketball action, neither of Douglas's varsity basketball teams could get past the Torrington Trailblazers. In the early game at the Rec Center Gym in Douglas, the LadyCats kept it close through halftime, trailing 30-29 at the break. Douglas lost the third quarter 13-9 and couldn't catch up in the 4th. Torrington's Makayla Brower led all shooters with 26 points... Douglas had two players break into double figures... Carlie Cecil scored 20 and Kassidy Scott hit for 14, bu tthe girls lost 61-55. In the nitecap, the 3rd-ranked 'Blazers ran away early, outshooting Douglas 14-8 in the 1st, 19-9 in the 2nd, 19-11 in the 3rd and 18-11 in the 4th. Douglas's Dylan Davidson was the top scorer of the night with 16, and Greg Vandeventer had 10. Torrington's Jason McManneman had 14.The Blazers win it 70-39. Douglas takes the night off on Saturday, hosts Worland next Friday and travels to Newcastle on Saturday.
